Bad Front tyres struggle for traction, boot and rear seat small. Even though the resurrected Mini has been with us a few years, it is still easier to look into its past than think of its future. After all, the current car is an unashamed tribute to the radical 1950s tiddler, so even if the two owe nothing to each other, apart from styling, the link is there. But what happens when it is time to roll out a new model? Thankfully for BMW, which owns this most British of small-car brands, an even newer Mini is still a couple of years away. Meantime, it has worked on refining the current car with a convertible version on the way and the more conventional hatchback models having been facelifted. The Mini Cooper and Cooper S have had some standard equipment removed - such as leather and chrome trim items - and their prices slashed by $3000 to $29,500 and $1400 to $38,500 respectively. For those who want the extra gear, two more upmarket versions called the Cooper Chilli and Cooper S Chilli are available. The Chilli models are claimed to carry $5000 worth of extra equipment for only $2000 extra on the price. Changes to all models include a three-bar grille, redesigned bumpers and new headlight lenses, while even the basic car gets an upgrade to its 1.6-litre engine with more torque and shorter gear ratios in a new five-speed manual transmission. Top of the range is the Cooper S Chilli driven here. It is mechanically identical to the supercharged Cooper S. A new supercharger and exhaust system have lifted power by 5 kW to 125 kW and torque is up 10 Nm to 220 Nm. Ratios in its six-speed gearbox have been lowered to give quicker acceleration and more responsiveness. The new exhaust has added a delightfully raspy note. Less endearing is the handling of the extra power by the front tyres. The Chilli has 17-inch Pirelli tyres with a run-flat capability that does away with a spare wheel. There's also standard traction and stability control, but it works overtime limiting wheelspin when exiting tight corners in second gear. Apart from that, the Cooper S can be a lot of fun with very direct though quite heavy steering, a lively handling balance and strong brakes. The ride quality is firm but not uncomfortably so. There are a few differences in the cabin of this latest Mini. The steering wheel, for instance, gets buttons for the cruise control that are simple and logical to use. Otherwise, there's an ambience unlike any other car. That's partly due to the upright windscreen that seems a long way in front of the driver and the styling with big, chrome-ringed gauges, toggle switches for minor controls and coloured panelling. The Chilli package adds the multifunction steering wheel, combination cloth and leather seats and bigger alloy wheels to the standard Mini, while the Cooper S Chilli also receives climate-control air-conditioning, xenon headlights and a Harman/Kardon stereo. There is a comfortable, highly adjustable driving position, but the rest of the car is not very practical. Despite the lack of a spare wheel, the boot is small, although the rear seat is split 50/50 and folds for more space. There's room for two adult passengers in the rear, but leg room isn't generous. January 2009 The MINI can’t claim to have started the retro craze, but it’s the most successful motoring legend follow-up yet.You only have to look at the hatchback to understand its appeal: it could easily be the car the original Mini would have become had development not been frozen in the Seventies. From its distinctive grille and large round headlamps to its unmistakable proportions, the new MINI doesn’t stray far from creator Sir Alec Issigonis’ original template on the outside. It’s the same story inside. The centrally mounted speedo is a rip-off of the original, while the bank of toggle switches beneath harks back to a bygone era. The rev counter sprouting from the steering column is now a regular MINI feature and looks great, but the interior won’t please everyone. Elements of its design look a little clichéd.Standard equipment is poor compared to the Alfa. However, the optional Chili pack fitted to our test model provides air-con, front foglamps, sports seats and a leather steering wheel. This comes at a price, though, because the extra kit adds £1,995 to the total.Build quality is good, but the MINI can’t match the incredible packaging of the original, due to modern safety requirements. Legroom in the back is limited and both passengers (the MINI is a four-seater) have to squeeze their feet uncomfortably underneath the seat in front. At only 160 litres, boot space is also restricted, although the split folding rear bench does provide a welcome degree of flexibility.Lift the stubby bonnet and you’ll find a 1.6-litre petrol unit that produces 118bhp. Thanks to its turbo, the smaller Alfa engine enjoys a 35bhp advantage, with predictable results against the clock. At the test track, the MINI sprinted from 0-60mph in 9.4 seconds – that’s 1.3 seconds slower than the Alfa. The MINI was also second best in our in-gear tests. It took 5.2 seconds longer to accelerate from 50-70mph in sixth, with a time of 16.1 seconds.Hot hatches aren’t only about pace and performance, though – and that’s where the MINI comes into its own. All of its controls have a level of accuracy that’s missing from the Alfa. From the beautifully weighted steering and slick manual gearbox to the sharp brakes and linear throttle response, you can feel the depth of engineering in the MINI.It trails the MiTo in a straight line, but as soon as you tackle a corner, the British car rewards the driver with tremendous grip and a responsive chassis. Its agile handling is coupled to excellent ride comfort, too. What the MINI lacks in performance it makes up for in running costs. Fuel economy of 39.6mpg is impressive and makes the turbocharged 32.9mpg Alfa look thirsty. Factor in the strongest resale values in the industry, and it’s clear the MINI won’t be giving up its crown without a fight. Contributor Network Aug 25, 2010 "Contribute content like this. Start Here." More: Chili Pepper Pepper Chili Green Chili Hot Pepper Love to make things yourself rather than buy everything you need from a store? Got a birthday party coming up soon? Thinking of making the party favors yourself? Great! That means your guests will have something unique instead of the limited offerings at a party supply store. Sure, they have lots of great things but you can have something spectacular without spending that kind of money. Create a chili pepper theme for the birthday party favors and you can make them with ease. Each little party favor will resemble a hot chili pepper but will be filled with candies instead! No more hitting swinging bags with sticks and scrambling for the candies; each person gets their own mini pinata and goodies! You can make a pattern for the chili pepper by using an empty bathroom tissue roll. Cut from one open end of the roll to the other to begin. Twist the cardboard to form a small paper cone. Trim away any excess and tape the cone to secure. Now roll the small cone in red tissue paper. Use two or three layers of the paper so that it's strong enough to hold the candy. Be sure the very point of the tissue paper, as it's wrapped around the cardboard cone, is very tight. Tape the tissue paper in place to secure.Remove the cardboard and use the paper cone to make the chili pepper. Fill the cone two-thirds of the way full of candy and goodies. Twist the top of the cone to hold the candy inside. Wrap a piece of tape around and around the cone above the twist so that it resembles the shape of a stem. Wrap the stem in green tissue paper and secure with tape. 12Next Page Share on Twitter Print Flag Close 0 Comments Published by Emma S. - Featured Contributor on Associated Content in Crafts & Hobbies. The kids are always reminded to make homemade cards, and to get their school projects ready to deliver to mom on that special morning. We take a bit of pride in our planning, making sure mom feels special on that day. Everything from letting mom sleep in, to folding clothes, to doing our best to make sure she is relaxed. This can be a challenge with the kids, but we try. My part of the planning is always the meals on that day, typically breakfast in bed, a light lunch, and then a wrap to the day with a really nice dinner. I woke up early on Sunday morning, not that this is unusual,  and began to prepare things orange infused french toast, great bacon, and the cup of chai tea that she loves. Don’t get me wrong, but I am not a huge fan of things like french toast or pancakes in the morning. I am an eggs and bacon kind of guy. But, the rest of my family loves those sorts of breakfast, so I am more than happy to make whatever they want.  As I began to prepare the breakfast for everyone, I realized that I was going to want some eggs, and at first, I thought of the usual suspects, scrambled, or over medium. As I had some time on my hands, and the house was still quiet with everyone sleeping, I decided to do something different, and make a scrambled egg mixture and bake them in my muffin tins. Bring on the chili frittata. Keep in mind that I am only calling this a frittata (here and here) as I bake them in the oven, and I did not have another label for them, well, I could have said something like ‘the yummiest egg breakfast ever’ but that would not sound right either. Ingredients: 4 large eggs 2 tbsp of all purpose flour 1/2 cup of your favorite salsa 1 tbsp of chipotle adobo sauce 1/2 tbsp chili powder 1/2 small onion, finely diced 1 cup of shredded jack cheese cooking spray muffin pan This is so easy to put together, that it not only makes a great breakfast item, but it is also great for brunch, or a mid-day snack. Begin by spraying the inside of your muffin tray with the cooking spray. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. To a large bowl, add the eggs, salsa, adobo sauce, flour, and chili powder, and mix really well, making sure all of the eggs are thoroughly beaten. Fold in the diced onion and cheese, then mix. Add about two large spoonfuls, approximately 5 tablespoons or so, into each muffin slot. Cook in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until you have a light golden top, or the eggs are cooked through. As I said, these are great, and perfect served warm, or at room temperature. 2 Responses to “Mini Chili Frittata” Joanne Says: May 12th, 2010 at 9:31 pm So sweet that you made this for your family!
